The Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) National Collegiate Recovery Conference is designed to facilitate a greater understanding about collegiate recovery communities (CRCs) and programs (CRPs), their essential role in colleges and universities across the nation, and the students they support.
It is an opportunity for experts in the field of education and addiction recovery to share a body of knowledge across the continuum of care with a focus on recovery support systems in higher education. The conference facilitates the sharing of national standards, developments in the field, ethics in collegiate recovery, and sustainability within higher education.

Recovery from Diet Culture
We are regularly exposed to weight-centric values and beliefs in our current diet culture that places so much emphasis on appearance and body size. In this session, we will debunk common myths about weight and offer a better way to relate to food, movement, and your body that supports both physical and psychological well being.

With the recent announcement of Canada’s new Guidance on Alcohol and Health, the UCalgary Recovery Community is hosting its first Staff Chat Lunch & Unlearn: Busting Alcohol Myths.
Dr. Victoria Burns, PhD, RSW will share how unlearning 5 myths about alcohol, helped understand her own pathway into addiction and find a more sustained, quality recovery. This is an interactive, in-person discussion. Pizza Lunch and drinks will be provided.

Released in January 2023, Canada’s Guidance on Alcohol and Health provided an update to the 2011 Low-Risk Drinking Guidelines. Together, we will explore questions about alcohol and health, including: Who released the Guidance? Why did they need to be updated? What is the impact of alcohol on a person’s health? How do I talk about the Guidance with others?

Drunk on Too Much Life is an intimate and powerful documentary following the filmmaker’s 21-year-old daughter’s mind-opening journey from locked-down psych wards and diagnostic labels towards expansive worlds of creativity, connection and greater meaning. On their journey, the family begins to question the widespread idea that mental illness should be understood in purely biological terms and learns the myriad ways that madness has meaning.
